How Can the Public Sector Support Aboriginal Self-determination?

  • Sofitel Melbourne on Collins 25 Collins Street Melbourne VIC 3000 Australia (map)

Victoria is leading the country on advancing Aboriginal self-determination and the development of a Treaty.  The Victorian Government is committed to Aboriginal self-determination and the process is occurring through a new engagement framework.

This session explores the Victorian Government’s Aboriginal Affairs Framework initiative, which includes 11 self-determination principles and provides a better understanding as to the current status of the Treaty process.

Become a voice in exploring the vision for Aboriginal self-determination, what it means in practice, and how the Victorian Government is empowering and involving Aboriginal Victorians through culturally safe practices, partnerships, and shared decision making.

Shining a light on promising practices that embrace cultural diversity, this session will bring ideas to the forefront, as the challenges and triumphs of the concept of Aboriginal self-determination are explored through discussion including what the broader public sector needs to know, reflect on and do to best support Aboriginal self-determination.

Be a voice, and start the week through improved understanding, actively support Aboriginal self-determination, instigate change to achieve better outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
